Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters is an upcoming film adaptation of The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan. It is the sequel to Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. The film will be produced by Karen Rosenfelt and Mark Radcliffe under Fox 2000 and directed by Thor Freudenthal. The film is slated for a August 7, 2013 release.[1]

It was revealed on the 749th issue (February 3, 2011) of an online subscription magazine, Production Weekly[2], that the film is currently in production. In another source, the lead cast members from the first movie are expected to return for their roles. Chris Columbus will not be returning as director, though he will be producing the movie together with Karen Rosenfelt (producer of the Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn). Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski were hired as the scriptwriters. Shooting will begin as early as this summer.[3] On June 16, 2011, it was announced that Thor Freudenthal will be directing the movie.[4] On October 12, 2011, it was announced that the film will be released on March 26, 2013.[5] On May 31, 2012, it was announced that the movie had been pushed back to August 16, 2013.[6]. On April 6, it was announced that the movie was pushed up to August 7, 2013. [1]

On January 13, 2012, a brand new production list was released and stated that the movie will film between April 26, 2012 - July 11, 2012.[7] Also, actor Brandon T. Jackson who plays Grover confirmed the movie via tweet and said that the movie will be "hot".[8] It was filmed in Vancouver, B.C. and New Orleans, Louisiana.[9] [10] Filming wrapped up in July and then started again in January for reshoots. It has been completed as of January 22nd, 2013. [11][12]. Filming is currently done and the movie is currently in post production.

- Initially, it was believed that the Fates would appear in the movie, but in reality the Gray Sisters are those who appear.
- Alexandra Daddario dyed her hair blond for the role of Annabeth Chase.
- Kronos will be introduced in Sea of Monsters, and will come to Percy in his dreams.
- The Oracle will make her first appearance.
- The Great Prophecy will be hinted throughout the film.
- This marks the first time Kronos appears in the film. Though Kronos was a prominent character in the series, he was only mentioned briefly in the first film by Chiron.
- The Great Prophecy has moved up from sixteen to twenty years old.
