Kronos' Scythe

Redirected from Kronos' scythe
Kronos' Scythe is a powerful scythe, and Kronos' weapon. It was given to Kronos by Gaea to slice his father, Ouranus into pieces and become king. His own son, Zeus used it to chop Kronos into pieces and send him to Tartarus. It was originally wielded by Luke as a sword known as Backbiter, a sword made of steel and Celestial Bronze. It's described in myth as a flint blade or diamond or a mythical metal called adamant.

History
Edit
Kronos' scythe was given to the original Perseus by Athena and Hermes, along with the Helm of Darkness to kill Medusa, they claimed that the scythe was the only thing sharp enough to decapitate the Gorgon. Perseus successfully performs his quest and returns the scythe to the gods, along with the Helm of Darkness. It was also used by Zeus against Typhon when he first emerged though it was unsuccessful in defeating him. It is unknown how Luke Castellan got a hold of the scythe in The Lightning Thief.

The Battle of the Labyrinth
Edit
Luke did not have his sword, as it was being reforged back into a scythe by the Telekhines that work for Kronos.
The Last Olympian
Edit
Kronos is seen using his scythe many times throughout the book. In his final fight with Percy, Kronos turns his scythe back into Backbiter because Percy challenged him to a sword fight. During the battle the sword is knocked into Hestia's hearth, but when Kronos tries to retrieve it, she super heats it so he cannot touch it. With the destruction of Kronos, it's reduced to a pool of molten metal. It is unknown if Hestia did this or if it was destroyed when Kronos was defeated.
Abilities

Because of its blade, which is made of half steel and half celestial bronze, it can harm both mortals and immortals. It can also be turned back into its sword form, Backbiter.
